Art Camp

Today was the last day of the second week of art camps with SLP. I had the best time with these little artists. Each day we worked on different projects, but I think the most fun they had was playing UNO at the end of the day! After we cleaned up we usually had about 10 mins before pickup so we would get out the cards. I have never laughed so hard. They couldn’t get enough and I kept thinking they are going to go home and tell their parents the best part about art camp was UNO! Thankfully I sent them home with a portfolio of great art so parents will see we didn’t play cards all day. Today we worked on portraits and the girls really got nervous about painting each other. We sketched out our faces and I they were almost frozen… It was interesting to watch. They had no reservations with the other projects but when it came to putting a face on a canvas board they were paralyzed. We worked through the fear and I think they turned out great. We also painted speckled trout for dads for Fathers Day. This is such a great creative release for me. I enjoy it very much. Whats not to love, kids and art… Libbie has been a wonderful help during the week and Owen taught a session for me last week. I think it’s good for them to serve and teach. Libbie was just a little older than the girls and they really got along well. Summer has my kids worn out. They are staying up later and sleeping in. We’ve had storms all week so you know who has made her way to our bed any time she hears it might thunder on the news… I love that she still wants to sleep with Mom and Dad and I’ll cherish it every time. I NEVER thought Hoot would sleep all night in his own bed and then it finally happened and he never came back. I miss those days. I’ve been working in the garden between storms and I’m looking forward to a few sunny days to get it back in shape. I started digging around on the side of our house and uncovered an old antique brick walkway or patio (Im not done digging) that I’m not sure what to do with. I’ll either have to dig out all the bricks or I may leave it and plant around it. It feels like I’ve discovered a little treasure from the past. I’ve discovered so many treasures in the studio from the original owner, Roseanne and now I’m finding bits of her out in the garden. I collect vintage Santas and while Lambert was cleaning out the garage, he pulled the old ceilings down and found an amazing vintage santa in perfect condition. I was just about to order a new pallet for my oil paints when I found a beautiful olive wood pallet panel in the drying trays tucked way in the very back. I love working in the studio at night when it’s quiet. I crank up the music and turn the twinkle lights on in the garden and paint for hours. I’m almost done with my studio office and then I’ll finish the studio bath. Baby steps… ADHD does not serve me well with all the projects I have going on.
